Disinfecting and cleaning households with natural products and essential oils has become very popular. For instance, one sought after product is the Thieves household cleaner, from the makers of Young Living™ Essential Oils. Thieves ® is a multipurpose natural solution that is ideal to create homemade cleaners.
The Thieves cleaner solution, when combined with essential oils and other natural ingredients, makes powerful, effective, and safe homemade cleaners.
WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR OWN CLEANERS
With the recent increase in the demand for disinfecting products due to COVID-19, finding familiar brand cleaning products has been hard. Luckily, you can make cleaners at home with a few no-chemical and natural ingredients that are readily available
Use my list of ingredients to prepare homemade cleaners, to get you started and also read this post to learn about the most popular essential oils used in homemade cleaners.
I have been using essential oils in our home for a few years now. I diffuse them for aromatherapy and use them topically to relieve migraines, soothe sore muscles, and tummy aches.
Some essential oils can even clean and purify the air we breathe. This is one of the reasons why I like to use essential oils in homemaking. My favorite use for essential oils is adding them as ingredients for homemade cleaners.
I use Young Living® essential oils and blends; therefore, I feature them and recommend them in this article. However, feel free to replace them with any brand of your choice and liking.

The thieves Cleaner Home cleaning Kit
Every night, I like to diffuse essential oils in our bedrooms. We usually diffuse a blend of Thieves ®, Peppermint, and Lavender, and it was time to re-stock. I placed an order for another -lovely- essential oil blend named Gentle Baby®, and some Eucalyptus essential oil.
Also, for the first time, I purchased the Thieves home cleaning kit to give it a try. So I decided to give you a close look at the products included in this home cleaning kit, packed with essential oils that can help you make your own homemade cleaners at home.
The kit includes five 5 ml bottles you can use in many essential oil recipes for homemade cleaners. My favorite oils are Citrus Fresh™ and Thieves®, which I use in my homemade countertop cleaner. I also use the Thieves Household Cleaner diluted in many forms to prepare all kinds of homemade cleaners, including my fruits and vegetable wash.
Along with the oils, and the Thieves cleaner solution, there’s also a carrying case, a soft cloth, a glass bottle, and a stainless steel bucket.
5 Essential Oils and Blends for homemade cleaners
These are 5 Essential oils and blends that come in the kit, and are great to use as ingredients in your homemade cleaners:
- Citrus Fresh™ Essential Oil Blend
- Thieves® Essential Oil Blend
- Purification® Essential Oil Blend
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Pine Essential Oil
I haven’t used Pine essential oil and Purification essential oil blend before. So, I am happy that I have them now in this home cleaning kit. You can find this kit in the Young Living Essential Oils website.
Citrus Fresh Essential Oil Blend
The Citrus Fresh™ essential oil blend is a combination of Orange, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Lemon, and Mandarin oils with a hint of Spearmint. The aroma is very uplifting and refreshing. It is great to diffuse at home, classrooms, and work, to promote positivity and energy.
This blend is a great replacement for home fragrances that usually contain chemicals. Therefore, it is one of my favorite blends to use in my homemade cleaning products, including my kitchen countertop cleaner.
Thieves Essential Oil Blend
Thieves® essential oil blend is a combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils. The aroma is spicy, like fall baking, and is great when preparing homemade cleaners. So versatile and useful that Young Living™ has a Thieves ® all-purpose Cleaner which is included in this kit too.
You can use Thieves ® to refresh carpets, eliminate odors, and create a peaceful environment when you diffuse its comforting aroma in any room. Use this oil to make garbage disposal tablets to keep your sink smelling clean all the time.
Purification Essential Oil Blend
The Purification® essential oil blend contains six essential oils: Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle, and Tea Tree. This is an excellent blend to fight odors. Combined, all these essential oils create a refreshing, and bright scent that makes your house smell fresh and clean.
Purification® essential oil blend is the perfect replacement for overpowering and harsh chemical-based sprays. Combine a few drops of Purification® with distilled water in a spray bottle to create your own homemade air freshener.
Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil is just that: pure Citrus limon (Lemon) peel oil, cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. Everyone loves the citrus scent of household cleaning products, so the Lemon essential oil is perfect to add to homemade cleaners.
Lemon oil is an amazing degreaser. Mix it with baking soda and vinegar to create a paste and remove stubborn spots on the stove, and other appliances.
You can use lemon oil to remove gooey sticker residue, naturally. It always works!
Pine Essential Oil
Pine is another popular fragrance you can find in brand name household cleaners. So, this Pine essential oil, made of pure pine leaf oi, is great to add to homemade cleaners, and for diffusing throughout the home as well.
Pine essential oil is great in homemade toilet bowl cleaner, and floor cleaner. One word of caution, this oil is flammable, so do not use it near fire, flame, heat, or sparks. And do not store it above room temperature.
If you have been looking to eliminate the use of harsh chemicals at home, making homemade cleaners with essential oils is a great option. The Thieves ® home cleaning kit is a good place to start because you get to try 5 different essential oils and blends that are great for homemade cleaners, as well as the Thieves ® cleaner itself, which is a great multipurpose solution for at-home cleaning.
The stainless steel bucket and the glass amber spray bottle are the perfect addition to get you started in your homemade cleaners journey.
